Meitheal Mara
Lead Partner
Founded in 1993, Meitheal Mara is a maritime cultural organisation and community boat yard on the River Lee in Cork city; a registered charity, training centre and community enterprise.
Cork’s only public vehicular slipway in the upper harbour — safe, direct river access for all.
From rowing, dragon boating and sailing, to traditional boat building, therapeutic outdoor activity programmes, and vital community services like search & rescue operations.
Shared home for six organisations and clubs - with workshops, boat storage, offices, meeting rooms and indoor training space.
Wheelchair-accessible pontoon, inclusive facilities, and targeted programmes to boost participation and ensure access for all communities.
A central hub for community groups, clubs and social enterprises - fostering collaboration, pooling resources and delivering inclusive water-based activities to strengthen Cork’s maritime community.
Eco-conscious build using renewable energy and integration with our initiatives for river cleaning, traditional boatbuilding and commitment to green & blue infrastructure.
Cork Maritime Activity Centre is a transformative project designed to provide state-of-the-art facilities for maritime sports and community activities.
Strategically located along the Marina in Cork, in the heart of the Docklands, the centre will serve as a hub for local maritime organisations and leisure boating clubs, fostering growth, inclusivity and maritime activities.
To create a thriving, inclusive waterfront space where people of all backgrounds can connect with the river, with each other and with Cork’s rich maritime culture. We’d like to see more people on the water, more often – for sport, wellbeing, learning and community – through activities like currach rowing, coastal rowing, sailing, dragon boating, kayaking and more.
